Shockwave Therapy in Niagara Region

SHOCKWAVE THERAPY

Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive technique that delivers a series of low-energy acoustic pulses to injured tissue, applied directly through the skin with the help of a coupling gel. This method and its underlying technology originated from the discovery that focused sound waves can break apart kidney and gallstones. Numerous scientific studies have demonstrated its effectiveness as a treatment for several chronic conditions.

Understanding Shockwave Therapy

Shockwave Therapy is used for stubborn, long-standing injuries and for pain that stems from illness. It doesn’t require painkillers; instead, it stimulates the body’s natural repair processes. Many people notice reduced pain and better mobility after the very first session.

These generated shock waves have been used for issues involving ligaments and tendons for conditions that have not shown improvement with other therapies. These conditions may include:

• Tennis elbow
• Achilles tendon
• Rotator cuff
• Plantar fasciitis
• Jumper’s knee
• Calcific tendinopathy
• Heel spurs

Whether the result of a sports injury, overuse, or repetitive strain, shockwave therapy performed by one of our technicians at Niagara Chiropractic can help heal and reduce your pain.

How Does Shockwave Therapy Work?

This innovative and modern, pain-focused therapy is becoming more adopted in physiotherapy practice. Delivered at energy settings far lower than those used in other medical procedures, extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) is applied to a broad range of musculoskeletal problems, with a primary focus on connective-tissue conditions such as tendon and ligament disorders.

It gives physical therapists an additional option for managing persistent, long-standing tendon problems that haven’t improved with conventional treatments. This approach is best suited for people with chronic tendinopathies—lasting more than six weeks—also known as tendinitis, that have not responded to other forms of care.
